We are honored to welcome the renowned musician, Idris Ackamoor, to Bandcamp Oakland. Idris is set to perform at Bandcamp Oakland March 3rd at 7PM. The evening will serve to celebrate the upcoming commemorative double vinyl album by his legendary band, Idris Ackamoor & The Pyramids, entitled, ‘Afro Futuristic Dreams’, set for 2023 release with Strut Records. Friday’s event will feature a SOLO performance from Idris Ackamoor and will be preceded by a live Q&A with highly published music journalist and cultural commentator, Marcus Crowder. The evening will culminate with a listening session of selections from Idris’ upcoming album. The event is also in anticipation of Idris Ackamoor and the Pyramids’ upcoming concerts at the Presidio Theatre on March 17th and 18th celebrating the 50th Anniversary since he founded his band that will feature his full seven-piece band, augmented by a string quartet and an additional horn section.
Most recently, Idris has returned from a dazzling residency and performance at Le Guess Who? Festival in the Netherlands. Originally formed in 1972, Idris and his seminal band, The Pyramids are widely known for blending traditional African rhythms with avant-garde jazz. Idris weaves in an array of African percussions, invented instruments, and collected world music instruments into his solo and band performances while spreading his vibrant gospel to a global audience for over five decades.
